Paint The Town Red
'Paint the Town Red' is the title of our forthcoming art exhibition, held in partnership with thinkarts, to celebrate World Mental Health Week.
The exhibition will run from the 6 October to 17 October at Central Library, Ilford
Football Coaching Course
Coach-ability is a London wide project which supports people with disabilities, including mental health problems, to become sports coaches in a variety of sports. It provides free Level 1 & 2 coaching courses, trained mentors and supported coaching placements.
Coach-ability are willing to provide a level 1 football coaching course on site at Goodmayes at some point in August if we are able to identify at least 12 service users who would like to participate.

PSST is Disability Action Waltham Forest's mental health project and we are looking for a part-time sessional worker to co-ordinate and co-facilitate our Day Centre Activities for up to 15 hours per week.
The successful applicant will have proven experience of working with groups of people who experience mental health problems. Salary will be paid at the hourly rate of £11.50 per hour (£20,930 pa pro rata equivalent).

Summer Garden Party and Awareness Day, 15 July 2009
Redbridge Dementia Partnership and Sanctuary Care are holding a summer garden party which will include information stalls offering professional advice on long term health conditions; cake stalls; complementary therapies; food and entertainment.
The event will take place within the grounds of Chadwell House, Sanctuary Housing and Dementia Resource Centre, 372 Chadwell Health Lane, Chadwell Heath RM6 4YG

Exercise your way to better mental health!
Exercise is one of the best ways to look after your mental health. As well as releasing natural chemicals that improve your mood and make you feel happier, exercise is a great way to meet people and get time away from the stresses of everyday life. In fact, research shows that exercise and physical activity can be as effective as anti-depressant medication in treating mild to moderate depression.
If you haven't been active for a while the thought of getting started can be quite daunting. The Mental Health Foundation has produced a new booklet and podcast to help you get on the right track!

Mental ill health in childhood casts a long shadow over adult life chances
This major new study finds that mental health problems in children and teenagers have a significant impact on their chances of success in employment and family life as well as contact with the criminal justice system.
People with conduct problems in adolescence were at double the risk of leaving school with no qualifications. They were more likely to be out of work or low paid, to become teenage parents and to be divorced later in life. And those with severe conduct problems were four times more likely than average to have been arrested by the police by the age of 30.
Emotional problems also have a major impact. Girls with severe emotional problems were three times more likely to experience mental ill health as adults. But emotional problems slightly reduced the chances of contact with the police and had little effect on chances in employment.
