Mental Health Week October 2007

Monday 8th to 14th October - Redbridge Concern for Mental Health and ThinkArts are holding an art exhibition - Paint The Town Red - at Ilford Central Library.

Thursday 11th October - Come along to Ilford Town Hall between 10am and 3.30pm and enjoy live music, jugglers, free health checks, refreshments and more.

Sunday 14th October - Forest Farm Peace Garden are holding an Arts and Crafts Day (11am to 4pm) which will include grafitti, photography and a drumming workshop.

Mental Health Services For Older People

Modernising Services Improving Practice is the title of this year's conference on Mental Health Services for Older People within NELMHT.

The date is: Tuesday 9th October, from 9.30 to 4.30 and the venue is: Goodmayes Hospital Social Club.

Funding Opportunity

The London Borough of Redbridge needs to allocate funding it has received from the Department of Health in respect of Mental Health Capital Expenditure. The purpose of the allocation is to facilitate mental health service user access to services.

Capital expenditure can be defined as expenditure where the benefits last more than 12 months. For the most part, this means expenditure on assets such as buildings, equipment or computers which can be used over a long period. Items such as salaries, supplies and purchasing of services, therefore, would not be funded under this programme.

Black History Month - October 2007

As part of Black History Month, Redbridge Resource Centre, in partnership With Mansfield Road Drop In, Milan Dos & Aquaba are holding a series of events throughout October celebrating the experiences of Black and Asian Culture the abolition of slavery and India's 60 years of Independence.

Events include a trip to the Museum of London where you can enjoy an evening of poetry with some of London's finest poets celebrating Black History and freedom. The Resource Centre will be showing the acclaimed film: Blood Diamond. There is also an afternoon of African Dance performed by Abladeeh.

Run Up Conference - Your Service Your Recovery

In July 2006 a service user led conference was held to identify key priorities for mental health service provision in Redbridge.

Come and find out what progress has been made on the priorities identified at last year's conference. A buffet will be provided.

Job Opportunity - Forest Farm Peace Garden

Volunteer Coordinator £22,863 (pro rata): 14 Hours per week - on Wednesdays 10 - 5pm, and other hours flexible within the needs of the service; fixed term until end of September 2008 with possibility of renewal.

The main purpose of this post is to coordinate the recruitment, induction and supervision of the project's volunteers. The role will be based in the garden for one day per week (Wednesday) and office-based for the other day (flexible). It will include providing direct one-to-one and group support to our 'Capital Volunteering' volunteers, managing the volunteer database and promoting the project to other organisations and members of the public.

Forest Farm Peace Garden is a community garden which works with a broad cross-section of the community to promote health, wellbeing, environmental sustainability, and intercultural understanding. Based in the London Borough of Redbridge, FFPG is regenerating a derelict allotment while offering its volunteers the opportunity to improve their mental and physical health through garden-based volunteering.

Candidates must have strong experience and personal commitment to working with people experiencing mental ill health, some gardening experience but not necessarily from paid employment, excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, and the ability to deliver at a high level.

Nelmht Foundation Trust Consultation

Nelmht is on the road to becoming a Foundation Trust. Consultation on the application will run from 9 July to 19 October 2007. During this time Nelmht will seek views and comments on their constitution and membership strategy, and will be actively engaging with the public, staff and local partners in order to recruit a vibrant and diverse membership.
