Redbridge Conference on Mental Health Care of Older People

North East London Mental Health NHS Trust and the Redbridge Older People's Mental Health Sub-Group are sponsoring a conference on Friday 27th April 2007, 10am to 3pm at Ilford Town Hall.

This will be an opportunity to discuss current service provision in Redbridge and to share views and ideas about current successes and what needs to develop and change. It will also be a chance to generate creative ideas about changes that would make a positive difference to service users and carers in Redbridge.

Domestic Violence Awareness Day

The Redbridge Domestic Violence Forum is hosting a 'Domestic Violence Awareness Day' on Thursday 08 March, from 10.00am until 4.30pm in the Main Hall, Redbridge Town Hall. This free event is for all women.

There will be: employment opportunities with the fire brigade and police; education stalls; health and beauty advice; domestic violence awareness and much more.

Tea, coffee and food will be provided along with entertainment.

Everybody Hurts

Newham Asian Womens Project launch event Everybody Hurts is a series of round table discussions focusing specifically on the key issues relating to self-harm. The keynote speaker is Professor Lord Kamlesh Patel of Bradford (Head of the Centre for Ethnicity and Health).

The event is being held at the Barbican on Wednesday 14th March 07 from 9am to 4.30pm

Dementia UK

The Alzheimer's Society has published 'Dementia UK: a report into the prevalence and cost of dementia', which is a major study on the social and economic impact of dementia in the UK.

The research, commissioned through King's College London and the London School of Economics provides the most detailed and robust picture to date of prevalence and economic impact of dementia in the UK.

The report shows that as the UK's population ages the number of people with dementia will grow substantially. It also shows that dementia costs the UK £17 billion a year on dementia. A summary of the report can be downloaded here

The Bridge - Redbridge Resettlement & Aftercare Service

The Bridge is a resettlement and aftercare service for adults living in Redbridge who have completed drug or alcohol treatment and who require emotional and practical support to move on with their lives.

The Bridge offers Open Support Groups, Structured Group work, Alcohol Counselling, Substance Misuse Counselling, Keyworking, Service User Forums, Weekly Activities Programme, Volunteering Opportunities, Mentoring & Befriending Service and Gender Specific Groups.

We accept both professional and self-referral. If you wish to use the service yourself, give us a call and we will book you in for an appointment.

Public Consultation

Redbridge Adult Social Services is suggesting a change in the Eligibility Criteria (the 'rules' which are used to decide who receives a service) in order to meet the growing demand for services and the need to stay within the budget and are carrying out a public consultation for three months.

Mental Capacity Act 2005

This paper provides guidance on the new Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy service in England, and the new criminal offences of ill-treatment or wilful neglect in England and Wales that are introduced by the Mental Capacity Act from April 2007. It also provides guidance on the planned implementation of the whole Act by October 2007.

Positive steps: supporting race equality in mental healthcare

This guide provides all those who plan, manage or provide mental health services with practical guidance on improving services for black and minority ethnic communities. It highlights good practice that already exists in the mental healthcare system, and is part of the government's five-year drive (Delivering Race Equality in Mental Health Care) to further improve services for these patients.
