Paint The Town Red

'Paint the Town Red' is the title of our forthcoming art exhibition, held in collaboration with thinkArts, to celebrate World Mental Health Week. It will take place in early October at Central Library, Ilford.

Goodmayes Hospital Fete

Voluntary services are organising a fete on Sunday 15th July from 1.30pm on the Goodmayes Hospital grounds. All Welcome.

We would be grateful for any help. The fete is also an opportunity for local community groups to raise funds. If you would like a pitch then please contact Voluntary Services on 0844 600 1200.

thinkarts' Summer Newsletter

Foundation Trust Membership

North East London Mental Health Trust is looking for people to join up as members ready for its move towards Foundation Trust status. As a member of a Foundation Trust, you will be able to take an active part in the life of the Trust, helping Nelmht to become more accountable and better at listening to the views of service users and carers, staff and the local community.

You will also be able to stand for election, or elect governors to represent you on the Council of Governors, which plays an essential part in the management of the organisation.

Forest Farm Peace Garden - Music, Arts and Crafts Day

How to get to Forest Farm: Central Line or 150 bus to Hainault Station. Left out of the Station onto New North Road, 2 minute walk and left into Hazelbrouck Gardens. Go through the gates at the end of the road and follow the map to the Peace Gardens.

Forest Recycling Project

Forest Recycling Project(FRP) is a not-for-profit community recycling business, which has been operating since 1989. It runs a number of projects including: the collection of recyclable office waste in North East London; the supply of recycled office stationery and a computer recycling initiative.

Volunteers are an important part of the project. Volunteering in various roles alongside staff, they help to ensure that FRP provides an excellent service to customers and the community at large.

Redbridge Public Health Report, 2006-07

This year's Public Health Report focuses on two Choosing Health priorities: promoting sensible alcohol consumption and mental health promotion. It also provides an update on health inequalities in Redbridge and on communicable disease issues in the borough.

Smoking and Mental Health

According to a recent report published by the Mental Health Foundation, government efforts are needed to ensure that people with mental health problems are supported to give up smoking in light of the imminent ban. The charity is calling for investment in services that offer counselling and stress management techniques.

Taking a deep breath says that people with mental health problems are more likely to smoke than the general population, and less likely to be able to give up using the mainstream programmes already on offer, leaving them more at risk of smoking related diseases. People with mental health problems face some of the greatest health inequalities and are much more likely to suffer chronic physical ill-health and premature death than the general population.
