Capital Volunteering Redbridge: Small Grants Make A BIG Difference

Capital Volunteering Redbridge is opening its second round of small grants on Monday 15 January 2007.

The deadline for completed applications is 2pm, Friday 02 March 2007. Decisions will be made on Wednesday 14 March 2007, with organisations notified of the results soon after.

Terry from Run-Up is planning to create a support group for people with bipolar disorder. The group will be an opportunity to share experiences and pick up valuable tips to help cope.

Tree Planting Day - Sunday 21st January

Forest Farm Peace Garden is holding a Tree Planting Day on Sunday 21st January from 11am to 4pm at the Forest Farm Community Gardens, end of Hazelbrouck Gardens, Ilford, IG6 2XL.

The Peace Garden is a community garden working with a broad cross-section of the community to promote health, mental well-being, environmental sustainability and intercultural awareness.

Arts Drop-In, Theatre Resource

Theatre Resource - High Street, Chipping Ongar, Essex CM5 0AD - is running art sessions for mental health service users. Users can participate in visual art, make use of PCs and an I-Mac equipped with art and design software. A professional artist will be on hand to assist participants with equipment and help boost their art skills.

Sessions are every Monday, 3pm to 5.30pm and every Wednesday, 2pm to 5pm.

Joint Health And Social Care Guidance On Dementia

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence and the Social Care Institute for Excellence have issued joint guidance on the treatment and care of people with dementia in health and social care. For the first time, healthcare professionals working in the NHS will be following the same guidelines as social workers and care workers in nursing homes.

The National Confidential Inquiry (NCI) into Suicide and Homicide by People with Mental Illness provides definitive national figures for England and Wales on patient suicide and patient homicide.

GLA Mental Health Survey

The Greater London Authority has launched a survey to seek the views of mental health service users who have come into contact with any kind of NHS mental health service in the last 12 months.
