Job Opportunity at Redbridge Concern - £8.50 per hour: 14 Hours per week

SVS Project Assistant - This post is funded for 1 year. The SVS aims to help people with mental health issues to volunteer in a wide range of settings thereby increasing confidence, skills and social networks.

The role will assist the Project Manager by providing a range of administrative and organisational support. The post-holder will work with people registered with the SVS, dealing with initial enquiries and referrals, as well as liaising with other agencies. In addition to having a good standard of computer literacy, the applicant will need to be approachable, adaptable, have some awareness of issues that affect people with mental health problems, and able to work effectively as a team member in a busy office.

Beyond We Care Too: Putting Black Carers in the Picture - 4th March 2008

The notion of taking responsibility for the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic Carers (BME) should be everybody's business. From first hand experience and substantial research the National Black Carers And Carers Workers network has established that this is still not the case. In 1999 the first National Carers strategy was launched and at the time the network was involved, however, the needs of Black carers was never integrated into this strategy leaving BME carers 'beyond marginalized' (Andrew Cozens WC2 1999).

This conference seeks to redress this imbalance and enable commissioners, policy makers and practitioners to engage and involve BME Carers and develop services for the range of BME carers through their responses to the New Deal for Carers.

Redbridge Age Concern - Early Intervention Service

The Early Intervention Service from Age Concern aims to provide support, advice and information for people in the early stages of dementia and their carers. We also aim to ensure that people presenting with signs of early dementia get access to medical assessments for diagnosis and support through the diagnosis process.

Who can use the service? In order to qualify for the Early Intervention Service the person must be experiencing the symptoms of the early stages of dementia: memory loss; poor concentration and confusion.

The person does not need a medical diagnosis to benefit from the service as we would be able to point them in the right direction to receive an assessment. Also the person must live in the London Borough of Redbridge and be over the age of 50.

Anyone can refer to the Early Intervention Service including friends, neighbors, and relatives of those with dementia or health and social care professionals. For more information please contact Age Concern on 0208 220 6000 or email admin@acredbridge.co.uk
