Celebrity Football Match

Air Football is hosting a celebrity football match on Sunday 10th August from 12 noon to 7pm at Cricklefields Stadium, Ilford FC, Seven Kings, High Road, Ilford IG1 1UE.

Entry to the game is FREE. There will be a variety of activities and events including music ranging from RnB to Rock, Hip hop to Pop. There will also be activities for children including athletics, football (Netbusters) a bouncy castle and face painting as well as information stalls - HSBC, Fitness First, Boots and the Met Police.

The Mental Health Foundation has released a suite of podcasts which are free to download. There are a range of podcasts from sleep and wellbeing to stress and relaxation. Bi-Polar Affective Disorder Group

Annette Challenger - Babalola is planning to set up a self-help group for people with Bi-Polar Affective Disorder in the Redbridge area. The group will meet monthly at Redbridge Concern for Mental Health Offices: 98-100 Ilford Lane, Ilford, IG1 2LD

North East London NHS Foundation Trust

The North East London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking people to join as members to have a say in how local mental health services are run.

Becoming a member doesn't cost you anything and it doesn't commit you to being heavily involved in the work of the Trust. As a member you can be involved as much, or as little, as you want and your contribution will also help reduce the stigma and discrimination people with mental health illnesses experience.

Herb Day at Forest Farm Peace Garden

On Sunday 10th August at 11.00 the Peace Garden's resident herbalist Debbie Syrret will be holding the first of her ongoing series of herb walks, talks and workshops. (See the attached article for more details Herb Blog).

These workshops will become an ongoing feature of the work going on at the Peace Garden, empowering more and more people to take control of their own health and vitality. Hope you can join us, bring some food to share if you like, or help us make a beautiful fresh feast straight from the garden!

Healthcare watchdog highlights best and worst NHS hospital care for people with acute mental health problems

Published on 23 July this review by the Healthcare Commission is the largest ever review of acute inpatient mental health services. It highlights areas for action and shows that all have room to improve. The Healthcare Commission assessed all 69 NHS trusts providing acute inpatient mental health services in England. This covered 554 wards providing almost 10,000 beds for patients between the ages of 18 and 65.

The review showed that while some trusts struggle to meet standards, there are a number of high-performing trusts proving that it is possible to provide personalised, safe and good quality acute mental health care.

However, no trust was scored as 'excellent' across all four of the key criteria, showing that every NHS mental health provider trust has room to improve services to patients.
