Service Description:
Hear and Now is a confidential counselling service for all young people aged 11-18 who live, work or study in the Redbridge area.

We can help young people who are struggling with feeling low in mood, anxious or depressed and who may experience thoughts of, or actual self-harm. We can also help young people who are experiencing obsessional thoughts or behaviors, behavioral difficulties and/or anger.

There can be many different factors which contribute to young people experiencing such difficulties. Some common examples are problems within family relationships, friendship difficulties, bullying, problems with boyfriends/girlfriends, sexuality and sexual relationships, abuse (emotional, physical or sexual), witnessing domestic violence, school and exam stress, bereavement (someone dying), personal illness or a friend or family member being ill, worries about appearance, problems with social media, problems with drugs and alcohol, sudden and shocking experiences e.g. a car accident or being attacked.

Sometimes we work with the young person on their own and sometimes we invite other family members or carers into the appointment – this will depend on what feels most helpful, the age of the young person and how involved the young person wants his/her family or carers to be.

When self-harm becomes a big problem for a young person or if the young person is thinking of ending their life or of harming someone else, then we may ask our colleagues in Tier 3 CAMHS to become involved in helping.

Hear and Now provides individual counselling, following assessment, in Ilford and in some Redbridge secondary schools. Some appointments may also be possible in South Woodford.
