Fairness Commission Public Meeting

Monday 6 July 2015

Start: 14:00
Finish: 16:00

Redbridge Council is facing unprecedented cuts and has to make savings of £70 million by 2018.

Previous savings have come from making services more efficient but the scale of the savings that now need to be made means that the way the Council plans, delivers and oversees services will have to change radically. It is no longer possible to maintain the universal services that have previously been protected. When deciding on how to make changes to current services in the context of the savings required, it is essential that Redbridge Council understands the complex needs of the communities it serves in order to inform how services are changed and which are protected.

The Council’s Corporate Strategy places "fairness” at the heart of its work. To help it do this, the Council has set up a Fairness Commission, which includes representatives from the Council, the voluntary sector, schools, the business sector, young people, trade unions and faith communities. The Fairness Commission has been established to recommend ways that Redbridge Council can ensure that equality and fairness run through all its services. In order to do this, it needs to know what YOU think are the most important services in Redbridge, and to hear YOUR IDEAS about what "fairness” means to you and your communities.

As one part of this process, RedbridgeCVS has been commissioned to run three "Open-Space” meetings for local people to share their ideas and concerns. The meetings will provide opportunities for local people to let the Fairness Commission know what they feel are the most important issues facing Redbridge. Participants are welcome to drop in and leave at any time, or to stay for the whole event. Anything can be discussed – so long as it relates to the general theme of "Fairness in Redbridge.” Everyone is welcome to attend.
