Celebrating Mental Health and Well Being

We are holding a number of events in October to celebrate World Mental Health week. These events are a great opportunity for people to find out more about mental health issues. They will raise awareness, inform and encourage the public to come forward and find support should they need it.

World Mental Health Day, Town Hall, Ilford

Aimed at challenging the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness and also the many ways we can help ourselves to improve our mental and emotional well-being: we are celebrating World Mental Health Day on Thursday 8th October. There will be information stalls, massages, free health checks, music, raffles and refreshments at the Town Hall (High Road).

Madness and the Moving Image, Thursday 15th October at 7pm

"Crazy", "mad", "psycho" are just a few of the phrases we see on the big screen. Do films create a negative stereotype of mental illness? Do the movies promote prejudice and discrimination? Are all mentally ill characters portrayed in the same negative way?

These are just some of the questions Dr Nathan Abrams, will be addressing in his film talk on Thursday 15th October at 7pm.

The event is being held at Valentines Mansion and Gardens, Emerson Road Ilford, IG1 4XA
