Celebrating Mental Health and Well BeingWe are holding a number of events in October to celebrate World Mental Health week. These events are a great opportunity for people to find out more about mental health issues. They will raise awareness, inform and encourage the public to come forward and find support should they need it. World Mental Health Day, Town Hall, IlfordAimed at challenging the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness and also the many ways we can help ourselves to improve our mental and emotional well-being: we are celebrating World Mental Health Day on Thursday 8th October. There will be information stalls, massages, free health checks, music, raffles and refreshments at the Town Hall (High Road). Madness and the Moving Image, Thursday 15th October at 7pm"Crazy", "mad", "psycho" are just a few of the phrases we see on the big screen. Do films create a negative stereotype of mental illness? Do the movies promote prejudice and discrimination? Are all mentally ill characters portrayed in the same negative way? These are just some of the questions Dr Nathan Abrams, will be addressing in his film talk on Thursday 15th October at 7pm. Classical Music Concert, Tuesday 6 October, 2pmThe Community Mental Health Team for Older People's Creative Group, thinkarts and Redbridge Concern present an afternoon of classical music at Goodmayes Hospital, performed by Live Music Now in celebration of World Mental Health Day 2009 Booking Required. Come along to the Central Library in Clements Road, Ilford IG1 1EA and experience an eye-catching and vibrant display at our annual art exhibition - Paint The Town Red - run in partnership with thinkarts. The exhibition runs from 6 - 17 October, Monday - Friday: 9.30am - 8pm and Saturdays: 9.30am - 4pm. Forest Farm - Apple and Arts Day, Sunday 11th October from 11am to 4pmAll are welcome to join in Forest Farm Peace Garden's Apples and Arts Day, on Sunday 11th October from 11am to 4pm, featuring: Apple pressing; Local varieties of apple for sale; Wood carving; Face painting; Local musicians; Local organic fruit and veg for sale and a freshly harvested lunch prepared in the garden.
