Alzheimer Cafe

For everyone interested or affected by Alzheimer's or other forms of Dementia - the Alzheimer Cafe, Redbridge has invited Samantha Shanley to talk about nutrition.

Grouchy Old Men Booklet

The booklet aims to build awareness and promote good mental health among organisations that come into contact with older men who are isolated and at risk of suicide and depression.

Support for Those Caring for a Relative with Memory Problems

Thank you to those of you who are taking part in the first 'wave' of the SHIELD Carer Support Research which began in Redbridge last year. The research is now underway in Havering, Redbridge and Barking and Dagenham, and will be expanding further.

We are back to Redbridge for a second 'wave' of recruitment, and will again be inviting expressions of interest from all those caring for a relative with memory problems who is living at home.

The SHIELD Carer Supporter Programme aims to improve the well-being of Family Carers and their relatives with dementia through the use of different forms of peer support. These include; Carer Support - putting Family Carers in contact with trained Experienced Carers for guidance and support; and Group Reminiscence Therapy for both the Person with Dementia and their Carer.

Early Stage support groups for people in the early stages of dementia

This 6 weekly programme will commence in early 2011 and take place on a Friday between 2.00pm-3.30pm at the Groveland's Day Hospital, Chadwell Heath.

The early stage support groups will provide: emotional support and practical advice; strategies for promoting health and well-being as well as the opportunity of being part of a mutal peer support group.

Expert Parents

Haven House and Interface are working together and planning a series of 30 sessions to empower, inform and educate parents/carers of disabled children, to become more expert in the care of their children.

A series of sessions throughout March will explore a range of topics and themes including: transition to adulthood; employment and equalities legislation and moving and handling children and young people.

Volunteering at Forest Farm Peace Garden

Forest Farm is community gardening project based in the London Borough of Redbridge. We work with a broad cross-section of our local community to promote health, wellbeing, intercultural awareness, and environmental sustainability.

No health without mental health

This strategy sets out six shared objectives to improve the mental health and well-being of the nation, and to improve outcomes for people with mental health problems through high quality services. It supports the Government's aim of achieving parity of esteem between physical and mental health. The interconnections between mental health, housing, employment and the criminal justice system are highlighted.

Local voluntary and community organisations can draw on the wealth of experience of their local communities in meeting the needs of groups they work with, including those groups most excluded and/or experiencing poor mental health.
