This report - a joint piece of work between Concern for Mental Health and Redbridge Faith Forum - outlines the findings of six focus groups with faith communities in Redbridge on the subject of mental health.

Alzheimer Cafe - Redbridge

For everyone interested or affected by Alzheimer's or other forms of Dementia, Jonathan Clements, (Community Mental Health Nurse) will be talking about: Working with younger people with memory problems.

"Words for Wellbeing" - An evening of readings by leading poets, Monday 9th March

Survivors' Poetry and Together: Working for Wellbeing are hosting an evening of readings by leading poets concerned with wellbeing, mental health and happiness.

Featuring: Sarah Wardle, Richard Copeland, Marjorie Holmes, Phil Ruthen, Harriet Thistlethwaite, Christina Viti, Rogan Wolf and Zoompad.

Monday 9th March Foyles bookshop, 113-119 Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0EB. Tube: Tottenham Court Road 5.45pm for 6pm until 8.30pm.

£10 entry on the door. Proceeds to support the work of Together and Survivors Poetry.

RedbridgeLINk is a new Government initiative set up to give people the opportunity to have a say in how their local health and social care services are planned, commissioned and delivered.

We are very keen to involve as many members of the community to become participants of RedbridgeLINk to help identify gaps in service, identify work priorities and address health inequalities. Anyone can join RedbridgeLINk. We are especially keen to hear from individual members of the public, faith groups, voluntary and community groups, young people, tenants associations etc.

Coping with Stress at Work

Monday 9 March, 1.30-4. 30pm at RedbridgeCVS, 3rd Floor, Forest House, 16-20 Clements Road, Ilford IG1 1BA. The venue is wheelchair accessible. Light refreshments will be provided. The course is free (£10 refundable deposit required).

The seminar will be facilitated by Alice Colson - the mental health specialist on the Business Mentality Team. Alice has many years of experience as a counsellor, mental health practitioner and health service manager.

Too little, too late: an independent review of unmet mental health need in prison

This report reveals that many people who should have been diverted into mental health or social care from police stations or courts are entering prisons, which are ill equipped to meet their needs, and then being discharged back into the community without any support.

Returning To Work

This study was carried out by Loughborough University and funded by the Foundation's grants programme. It examines the role of depression in returning to work after a period of sickness absence across four types of chronic illnesses: depression and anxiety, back pain, heart disease and cancer.

The report shows that almost half (45%) of those with a physical condition experienced mild to moderate depression, but were more worried about telling their employer about their mental health issues than their cancer or heart disease. Despite the fact that depression impacted on their well-being and ability to function at work, most felt unable to tell their line managers about the difficulties they were facing.
