Redbridge Carers Week

Carers Week is vital in highlighting and celebrating the remarkable contribution that the UK's six million carers make.

Redbridge Carers Support Service invite you to come along and enjoy the launch of National Carers Week in Redbridge on Monday 8 June from 10am to 12 noon in the Gloucester Room, Central Library Ilford, Clements Road, Ilford IG1 1EA.

There will be a range of activities including: a yoga demonstration; information stalls; pampering sessions and opportunities for professionals and carers alike to share news, views and information.

Drop in to the Town Hall, Ilford on Friday 12 June 2009 between 11am-3pm for the London Borough of Redbridge's Carers Day. Activities include: music; health checks; information; advice; refreshments and a free raffle.

RedbridgeCVS invites you to the first Healthy Living, Healthy Minds event 2009

This exciting and innovative event - to be held at Cineworld Ilford - will be showcasing two South Asian films including Open Secrets (starring Saeed Jaffrey) a short film about how a Redbridge based South Asian family overcome fear, shame and discrimination towards their son's mental ill health.

The emphasis of the event is on how we can promote good mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing while respecting cultural and religious beliefs.

After each film there will be a panel led discussion about the issues raised, including an opportunity to talk to Azeem Khan, the director of Open Secrets.

The event will take place on: Tuesday 30th June, Wednesday 1st July and Thursday 2nd July from 10:00am to 12:30pm.

Entry for the event is free and refreshments will be provided plus there will be a chance to win great raffle prizes.

BOOKING IS REQUIRED to guarantee a place. Attendees must be over 16 years old.

NELFT Sports Day - Thursday 2 July 2009

This year's NELFT Sport's Day promises to be bigger and better than previous ones.

The event - Fit for 2012 - on July 2 will celebrate the work NELFT and our partner organisations undertake with service users on physical fitness and the arts.

The day, to be held in the grounds of Goodmayes Hospital, will include five-a-side football, tai-chi, wellbeing demonstrations, rounders, tug of war, and many other displays and presentations.

Service Users, staff and representatives from a range of organisations including User Representative Groups, Primary Care Trusts, Local Authorities and Voluntary sectors will be invited to participate in the day.

The Sports Day is an opportunity to engage with the wider community who are involved in the provision of Mental Health Services or associated services and present the extent to which an holistic approach is being adopted that incorporates physical wellbeing in the programmes offered to Mental Health Service Users.

Forest Farm Music Festival to Celebrate Refugee Week

The summer solstice is approaching - Sunday June 21st - and Forest Farm is marking the longest day with a great musical celebration as part of Refugee Week.

In tribute to the great contribution of refugees and asylum seekers to the life of the garden and the wider community, there will be bands from around the world and an open session for all to join in.

Say NO! To Abuse - Service User Training

The London Borough of Redbridge is organising Adult Protection Awareness Training for service users.

You have the right to respect and to be supported and cared for safely without the fear of being taken advantage of or experience abuse of any kind. You not only deserve but should EXPECT respect at all times!

Sadly being taken advantage of or abused can happen in your own home or in places where you expect only good care e.g. a day centre or a residential unit. It may not be happening to you now and hopefully you may never experience it but come along to this session and you will find out what to do should it happen to you or a friend.

Workshops are due to start at the end of June /early July depending on numbers

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - 15 June 2009

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is on 15 June 2009. The event is hugely important for raising awareness of the vital issue of elder abuse.

Everyone has a right to feel safe and to be treated with dignity and respect in their daily lives. Most people who need support are well cared for by families, friends, neighbours and services. But even so some people are abused and exploited and we want to do everything we can to stop this happening.

You can help - by being aware that such things can happen. You can make a difference by finding out if there is anything you can do to help, and reporting concerns you may have. All concerns, including those reported anonymously, will be taken seriously and dealt with sensitively.

If you have concerns about someone who may be being abused, please contact the Customer Contact Centre on 020 8554 5000 or the Community Care Advice Centre on 020 8708 7333 (Mon - Fri: 9am - 5pm).
